Roofing


Centering is the first activity in Roof construction. Metal plates of sizes 2 x 3 feet are positioned at 10 feet height to provide a flat base and support for the RCC roofing. These metal plates would remain in position until the roof is fully laid and cured. The plates are coated with a non-stick material to ensure the concrete dosent stick on it.




R.C.C. Framework and Electrical Nodes



Casting was done on 14th Jan 2008 after almost a month's preperation from the time the centering work began. Casting is a big effort and took almost 9 hours to complete.




Curing will continue till end of Jan.



The first floor brickwork is expected to commence in early Feb. That gives us some time to fine tune the first floor design.

Supporting Columns


Columns are used to support the cantilevered load of a building, in this case the Verandah and the Terrace.

The load from an isolated column is distributed into the soil below by providing square, rectangular or circular column footing. The footing as shown in the picture below is a large flat slab of R.C.C. The depth of the footing slab must be sufficient to resist the tendency of the column to penetrate or punch through it.




The depth of the footing is based on the punching shear and maximum bending moment in the footing. The shear and bending moment are caused on account of net upward pressure of the soil below. Since the weight of the footing acts downwards, while the net upward pressure acts upwards, the self-weight of the footing is excluded while computing the net upward pressure due to the soil.
